With dating fraud, often the con artist develops a relationship with their victim through an online dating site and convinces the victim to send money to the fraudster.  The requests for money can be a one time event or repeated over an extended period of time.

• Be cautious of individuals who claim the romance was destiny or fate, and you are meant to be together.
• Be cautious if an individual tells you they are in love with you and they cannot live without you, but they need you to send them money so they can visit you.  They may use the argument; by not sending funds you no longer love or care about them.
• Fraudsters typically claim to be originally from the United States but are currently overseas or going overseas for business or family matters.
