Online Banking Security Statement
This Online Banking Security Statement is being provided to existing and potential customers of Commercial Bank to outline our commitment to your expectations of privacy and security while visiting and transacting business with us through our web site at www.commercial-bank.com or through our online banking services.
Our Commitment to Providing a Secure Online Banking Experience
As technology enhances Commercial Bank’s ability to deliver financial services in new and innovative ways, we must continually assess our standards for ensuring the privacy and security of information provided to us by our customers. We are committed to a high standard of Internet security and this security statement will outline our security measures and how we will use and protect the information gathered from our Online banking services.
Online Banking is Commercial Bank’s online banking service, allowing existing customers to transact their banking over the Internet. Through Online Banking, customers can check account balances and histories, transfer funds between Commercial Bank accounts, reorder checks, download account information for use with financial management software such as Quicken ® and Microsoft® Money, and e-mail the bank with questions or comments.
Your role is extremely important in preventing the misuse of your account and personal information, especially as you take advantage of the convenience of Online banking.
We ask that you promptly examine your statement(s) upon receipt and report any errors or unauthorized transactions to us immediately. Additionally, you should notify us at once if you believe your online password has been compromised. For complete information regarding how to report an error, unauthorized transfer, or other unauthorized access to your account, please review the Commercial Bank Online Banking Service User Agreement and Disclosures.
In addition to protecting your account information, you should also take precautions to protect your personal identification information, such as your driver’s license number, Social Security Number, etc. This information by itself or together with information on your account may allow unauthorized access to your account(s). It is your responsibility to protect personal information with the same level of care that you protect account information.
For your protection, we also recommend that you do not leave your computer unattended while accessing your personal bank accounts.
Our Security Standards and Measures
We employ a number of mechanisms to ensure the safety and security of our Internet banking options. These mechanisms help us to properly identify our customers and to ensure the confidential nature of financial information as it navigates through cyberspace.
Secure Browsers. To keep pace with ever-changing technologies and security enhancements, Commercial Bank requires the use of secure browsers to access our Internet banking services. A browser is a program that can navigate the Internet, request and download web pages, and display them properly after interpretation. To ensure access to all features available at our web site or through our online banking services, we require, at a minimum, the use of Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 4.01 or Netscape Navigator® version 4.08. However, we recommend that you continually upgrade to the most current version of the browser you select for maximum efficiency and security.
Encryption Technology. Commercial Bank uses encryption technology to ensure the information passed over the Internet between the bank and its customers remains confidential. Encryption systems, which scramble electronic communications and information, make a message unreadable by everyone except the intended recipient. In other words, the information you send to us is scrambled en route and then de-scrambled once it reaches Commercial Bank. Thus, when you make transactions online, the information cannot be read by anyone other than authorized Commercial Bank customer service staff.
Encryption strength is measured in bits, referring to the size of the key used to encrypt the message. A longer key means the encryption is more "random" and someone attempting to decipher the message would have to try more combinations of keys. Most Web browsers support 40-bit (low) or 56-bit (standard) encryption strength. Commercial Bank uses 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. This enables 128-bit SSL encryption with both domestic and export versions of Microsoft® and Netscape browsers. The 128-bit encryption key is about 309,485,009,821,345,068,724,781,056 times stronger than 40-bit. Your browser must be capable of 128-bit encryption.
You will know that you are securely connected to the web server via the SSL when you see a "closed lock" or "unbroken key" icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your Microsoft® Internet Explorer browser screen or in the lower left-hand corner of the Netscape browser screen. You will also see "https://" on your browser URL address line, indicating that you have established a secure link.
Firewalls. Commercial Bank employs advanced firewall technology in providing access to Online Banking. A firewall is a boundary that prevents unauthorized users from accessing restricted files on a network.
"Time Out" Features. For added security, we have installed "time out" features. Should you leave Online Banking without first signing off, you will be automatically logged off after a specific period of time. We will not log you out if you have accessed a link with another site that maintains security with our banking site.
For your protection, we strongly recommend that you log out after each visit to Internet Banking.
Passwords and Pass Phrases
Passwords are utilized to gain access to Internet Banking along with an image identification and password phrases provided by Passmark in association with our Online Banking service provider. No password is required for viewing of general information at commercial-bank.com.
You are responsible for the confidentiality of your password. You should keep all passwords confidential to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts. When you have successfully entered your password, Commercial Bank is entitled to allow you to view your accounts through Internet Banking. This means that whomever has possession of your password will have access to your account information and could potentially initiate transactions. If you believe that your password has been lost, stolen, or compromised, you should contact us immediately. Complete procedures for doing so are outlined in the Commercial Bank Online Banking Service
User Agreement and Disclosures
Additionally, certain higher levels of Internet browsers may provide you with an option to save your log-in information, i.e. your password. When you use this feature, anyone with physical access to your computer could potentially log in to your account. While convenient, we strongly advise you not to use this feature. After logging in, the browser will ask if you wish to save your log-in information. Answer "No" to prevent your user identification and password from being saved.
Commercial Bank features advanced Internet access security protocol to ensure the privacy of your account information. The following outlines our standards for ensuring confidential access to our online banking services:
Access to Online Banking is limited to existing account holders over the age of eighteen. Individuals must specifically request the service through an enrollment process. To enroll for access to Online Banking, a customer must complete a User Application, available on the web site or at any Commercial Bank branch location. Once the application is received and processed, written confirmation of the enrollment will be e-mailed to the customer followed by their initial password. Upon first access to Online Banking, the customer will be required to change the password to a confidential code of their choice. The password will be required at the log-in screen each time the customer accesses Online Banking. Access will be blocked if the password is entered unsuccessfully on three consecutive attempts to log-in. Password must be changed every 90 days. Users will be locked out of Internet Banking after 60 days of inactivity.
